Material Brief: Chemical looping with platinum on alumina Autosorb 6300

Chemical looping, an experiment in which the sample is maintained at constant temperature under continuous flow but with a fast-changing gas feed composition, is used both in academic research and industrial settings to shift reversible equilibria by changing the chemical environment of a sample. As proof of concept, a published experiment was reproduced using the Autosorb 6300 with a mass spectrometer. While this experiment was a simple proof of concept, further analysis can be done by varying the time between feed changes and selecting different gas inputs to work at different gas concentrations. The chemical looping experiment can then be combined with any of the other characterization experiments available using an Autosorb 6300 (physisorption, TPX, etc.) for a thorough characterization of the sample using a single instrument.
