Material Brief: Asphalt - Skeletal density - Ultrapyc 7000

Using the Ultrapyc 7000 gas pycnometry instrument to determine the skeletal density of asphalt samples provides rapid and accurate data. These measurements can be used to provide quality control or to optimize the final pavement product.

Testing various material properties, including skeletal density, of asphalt can be beneficial for quality control in a production setting and in research and development applications. In this study, samples of asphalt were collected and used to fill the large cell on the Ultrapyc 7000. This sample was sub-sampled from mixture of aggregate and bitumen that had been previously applied to a roadway.
