Low Surface Area Measurements using Krypton with the Autosorb 6100 MP
This report highlights measurements with as low as 0.03 m2 total surface area of a certified international reference standard material with the Autosorb 6100 MP using Kr gas at 77 K.
For extremely low SSA solids, using the traditional N2 adsorbate at 77 K to measure BET SSA requires an extremely precise transducer. That is, the small changes in uptake (which are really just changes in absolute pressure dosed onto the sample surface) achieved using N2 at 77 K can be difficult for pressure transducers to precisely measure. In this study, we show accurate and repeatable measurements with <0.05 m2 total surface area of an international gas adsorption BET SSA standard using Kr (77.4 K) adsorption on the Anton Paar Autosorb 6100 MP.
