Flash Point Proficiency Testing of Lubricants

The flash points of four lubricating oils were tested as part of the 2024 Proficiency Testing Program of FAM German Standardization Committee on Petroleum Products and Lubricants. Apart from showing an excellent repeatability, the performance of Anton Paar’s PMA 500 and CLA 5 was exceptional as was demonstrated by the PTP average and the resulting Z-Scores.

Flash point measurements are primarily used to determine and classify the flammability risk of a substance during production, storage and use, its compliance to specifications, or the detection of potentially harmful contaminations.

Measuring such potentially serious contaminants requires precise and repeatable results. A proven way to guarantee and demonstrate precise and repeatable test results and optimum instrument quality is the participation in Round Robins or Proficiency Testing Programs. Anton Paar ProveTec is a regular and high-performing participant in such Proficiency Testing Programs (PTP).

This application report describes the testing of two motor oil samples and two gear oil samples in the as part of the 2024 PTP of FAM German Standardization Committee on Petroleum Products and Lubricants.
