SurPASS 3: Instrument Specifications
This application report demonstrates proofs of the specifications of the SurPASS 3 instrument. The following paragraphs exemplify the reliability of streaming potential measurements at high and low ionic strength, high pressure and in a wide range of pH levels. Results for the repeatability and reproducibility of the zeta potential and for the auxiliary parameter of the electric resistance complemented this report.
The measurement of streaming potential and streaming current allows us to determine the zeta potential at the interface of a macroscopic, solid surface and a surrounding liquid. The magnitude of this zeta potential depends on the surface chemistry of the sample and the dielectric properties of the solvent. In aqueous solutions, the ionic strength and the pH are important factors which influence the streaming potential and streaming current. A table with the respective instrument specifications can be found at the beginning of each chapter. Additionally, the full table of specifications is displayed in the appendix.
