Gold Nanoparticles: Size and Zeta Potential with the Litesizer 500

Gold nanoparticles have generated great interest across physics, chemistry, biology and medicine because of their unique electronic, optical and thermal properties. Furthermore, they are relatively stable and non-toxic, and are thus potentially useful for drug and gene delivery.

Over the last decade, dynamic light scattering (DLS) has become a popular method for measuring the size of colloidal nanoparticles, while electrophoretic light scattering (ELS) is widely used for determining the stability of nanoparticles in suspension.

In this Application Report, we determine the size and colloidal stability of gold nanoparticles ranging from 2 to 10 nm by using DLS and ELS with the Litesizer™ 500 from Anton Paar.
