Get a clearer picture of your sample with the Transmittance tool

The Litesizer™ series instruments can measure the transmittance for every sample independently of its particle size, using a dedicated measurement mode. Here we demonstrate how this measurement mode can be used to monitor sedimentation, aggregation or flocculation over time. In addition, the effect of the solvent or of temperature on sedimentation/aggregation can be easily and quantitatively studied using transmittance. Furthermore, we demonstrate how the transmittance value displayed in real time during DLS and ELS measurements enables the instrument to automatically select the best measurement parameters.

Transmittance is the proportion of the incident radiation flux which enters a sample completely and describes the effectiveness of a material in transmitting light. It is directly related to the turbidity of the sample, and therefore to the particle size and concentration of its components. 

The Anton Paar Litesizer™ series particle analyzers have the unique capability to register transmittance, either using a dedicated transmittance measurement mode or in real-time, during light scattering measurements.

The real-time measurement enables the instrument to automatically select the best measurement parameters (measurement angle, focus), while the dedicated transmittance measurement mode can be used to monitor sedimentation and/or aggregation.
