Understanding interrelations between rheological behavior and microstructural origin using rheo-optical tools

The macroscopic properties of materials are strongly determined by their microstructure and the structural changes under certain conditions (e.g. during processing, flow & transportation, storage, or under temperature and humidity variations).

Understanding the morphology is critical in polymer rheology as the degree of crystallization can impact various material properties. Stability of emulsions, starch gelation, crude oil crystallization, breakage of structural elements into smaller ones, melting and crystallization for food materials are only few examples demonstrating the impact of structural changes to the material’s behavior.

Seeing is understanding: the better you know the structure of your samples, the better you can predict your material’s behavior. Starting from real-life applications, the webinar will help you to better know how to combine mechanical and structural characterization in synchronized, simultaneous measurements. An array of techniques including microscopy, small angle light scattering and polarized light imaging will be covered. The benefits of each technique as well as possible combinations for complementary information will be highlighted.
