Welcome to the Exciting World of SAXS
Background
SAXS excites, the International SAXS Symposium 2023 will not just give you insights into the diversity of SAXS, but it will also be a chance to reflect on current trends, foster discussions, and exchange ideas for the future.
The goal of the symposium is to continuously expand the SAXS family. By doing so, we want to encourage interdisciplinary cooperation and the open exchange of views between renowned scientists, young researchers, and industry leaders.
The first two SAXS excites symposia were held in 2017 and 2019. Both hosted over 100 participants from around the globe. With world-renowned keynote speakers, captivating talks, and engaging poster sessions, these events were unforgettable.

Program
SAXS excites: The scientific program will comprise five sessions with keynote lectures and oral presentations as well as one poster session. Detailed schedule
First things first
The welcome reception and the official opening of the symposium will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.
Social program
Coffee, lunch, and the conference dinner are included in your participation fee. The optional company tour of Anton Paar GmbH is free of charge. Please register for these events via the registration and abstract submission form.
Company tour
An optional tour takes place on April 4, 2023 in the afternoon. Shuttle buses will be available, and these will leave after the end of the scientific program from the event location. The tour will take approximately 1.5 hours. Afterwards you will be taken directly to the conference dinner at “Sudhaus” right next door.
Symposium dinner
The symposium dinner will take place at “Sudhaus” on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. “Sudhaus” is an à la carte restaurant with its own brewery that produces unique beers.

Registration
Registration must be completed online and is required for all symposium participants.
Apart from plenary lectures by invited speakers, participants can present their scientific work orally or during the poster session.
Participants applying for an oral or a poster presentation will be contacted by the organizing committee via e-mail for further instructions and abstract submission after completing the registration.
Please note that your accommodation will not be booked by the organizing committee. You will find more information on accommodation possibilities here.

Covid-19 situation
The SAXS excites Symposium will be held according to the Austrian government’s Covid-19 regulations and the Graz University of Technology’s policies (e.g., regarding travel, building access). The organizing committee reserves the right to cancel or postpone the physical symposium at any time.

SAXS (Small Angle X-Ray Structure) is one of the leading technologies for the analysis of crystalline-, molecular-, and nanostructures. For a long time, SAXS was regarded as pure basic research only, but nowadays it is an established method in modern analytics and applied research in the industry.
SAXS contributes significantly to the knowledge and understanding of the stability and mode of action of biomolecules, e.g. proteins, enzymes and antibodies, and thus the development of new active ingredients (APIs) and medicaments in solid and liquid formulations. Antibiotic resistance and the increasing number of allergies are only two key points which underline the importance of SAXS as an analytical method.
A further future field for the SAXS method is the control and analysis of nanoparticles during production. Today, nanoparticles are the norm in many everyday products, e.g. in cosmetics, detergents, clothing and solar cells. They give the different products their special characteristics. There are many more future-oriented applications using SAXS as a leading technology.

By airplane
Graz has an international airport, Flughafen Graz-Thalerhof, which can be reached via Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Amsterdam, and Vienna.
A train takes you from the airport to Graz’s main train station in about 10 minutes. Taxis are available at the departure gate as well.

Graz’s main station is well-connected to the center and other parts of the city, and a number of buses and tramways take you downtown.

From Vienna (AT), via A2 in the direction of Graz. The distance is approx. 200 km and it will take you about 2 hours.

From Zürich (CH) via A96, A995. The distance is approx. 700 km and it will take you about 8 hours.
