From Theory to Practice: PVC Mixing and Extrusion Workshop

Join us for this three-day hands-on PVC Torque Rheometer testing workshop designed to provide both industrial scientists and academic researchers the theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills needed for the fusion- and thermal stability testing in Brabender mixing bowls according to ASTM D2538. Explore different generations of Brabender measuring mixer attachments, run them side by side to see the differences and learn how to best troubleshoot repeatability/reproducibility issues.


This workshop offers the opportunity to deep dive into the world of PVC testing, providing practical insights, and the chance to explore the current ASTM standard methods utilizing the Brabender Torque Rheometer. PVC extrusion will be the focus on the latter half of the workshop. Learn about the adapted concept of an extrusion slot capillary die (similar to ASTM D5422) for highly filled / viscous formulations. Explore new ways of looking to the color hold and degradation behavior of rPVC. Automation and process control concepts to avoid any downtime of the production lines will be discussed as well.

Christoph Pielen

After earning his degree from RWTH Aachen University in Germany, Christoph Pielen joined Brabender GmbH in 2012 as an Application Specialist. He later becoming Laboratory Manager and then President of Brabender CWB in the U.S., where he supported ASTM standard development and customer applications. Following Brabender's 2023 acquisition by Anton Paar, Christoph now serves as Lead Scientist for Texture and Extrusion at Anton Paar USA.

Outside work, Christoph enjoys traveling, skiing, and spending time with his two children, Alexander and Victoria, while pursuing his passion for aviation and space exploration.
