Mastering Modern Rheology: From Basics to Melt and Powder Insights (KZN)

Join us and our international guest speaker, Leonie Reinders (Trainer Rheology at Anton Paar Germany) for our Mastering Modern Rheology: From Basics to Melt and Powder Insights workshop taking place on Thursday, 20 November 2025.

This workshop provides basic introduction to rheology, with insights into advanced oscillatory tests and introduction to special rheology accessories. Participants will gain foundational knowledge, explore advanced analysis methods, and engage in hands-on sessions that demonstrate how rheology supports product development, quality control and material innovation.

Session 1: Introduction to Rheology

  • What is rheology?
  • Key parameters: Shear stress, shear rate, viscosity
  • Flow and deformation: Elastic vs. viscous behaviour
  • Time, temperature, and frequency dependence
  • Rheological behaviour of common materials
  • Hands-on Demonstration: Measuring viscosity and flow curves using a rotational rheometer.

Session 2: Advanced Oscillation Insights

  • Structure–property relationships:
  • Interpreting G' and G'' dominance
  • Detecting crosslinking, degradation, or phase transitions
  • Time–Temperature Superposition (TT

Leonie Reinders

Dr. Leonie Reinders works in the Rheometry Product Competence Team of Anton Paar since 2024 with a focus on training and science communication. She studied chemistry at Stuttgart University (Germany), focusing on materials chemistry and holds a PhD in chemistry, working in the field of ceramic fibers at the German Institutes for Textile and Fiber Research in Denkendorf (Germany). 

Tracy Mashiane

Tracy holds a Masters in Chemistry from VUT and would like to expand her knowledge in Environmental Management. She joined Anton Paar Southern Africa in 2024 as Sales Specialist in Characterization focusing on Torque Rheology.
