Making Effective Rheological Measurements: Enhancing Data Quality and Accuracy
Rheology is the study of flow and/or deformation of a wide range of materials, ranging from low viscosity solutions to highly elastic steel alloys. How one characterizes the visco-elastic balance of a material is through an array of techniques that poke and prod the sample and monitor its response back. From this response general rheological principles/theory can be applied to convert this response into rheologically relevant data. However, theory is only one half of the equation in acquiring meaningful data. The other, more crucial aspect, is to be able to look at the results and distinguish if the results are actually meaningful or not. This webinar will help to provide a road map in terms of improving data quality as well as steps to eliminate measurement artifacts.
James Eickhoff is the principal application engineer for the rheology division as a member of the Advanced Technical Support Center at Anton Paar USA. He has over 20 years of theoretical and experimental rheology training, including the last 17 years with Anton Paar having guided current and prospective customers on the use of rheological techniques in their industrial and academic research. James earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and Clemson University, respectively.
Dr. Abhishek Shetty is a Lead Scientist working at the Advanced Technical center at Anton Paar USA. Dr. Shetty received his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from National Institute of Technology Karnataka and MS and PhD from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. Dr. Shetty has over 15 years of working experience in academia, CPG and Advanced instrumentation space. He is a named inventor on 2 US patents, has published several peer-reviewed scientific journal articles which have garnered hundreds of citations and also has presented at several scientific technical conferences. As the Lead Scientist at Anton Paar, his responsibilities are to develop next generation materials characterization methods relevant to Anton Paar’s rheology portfolio. Dr. Shetty's work with teams spans across the globe to develop new advanced applications using advanced rheometric tools. His work has been featured in prestigious journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Science Advances, Physical Review Letters (PRL), Journal of Rheology (JOR) etc.
