Glass Transition Temperature of Polymers

Monitoring the glass transition and determine Tg with the Thermo-optical Oscillating Refraction Characterization – TORC for polymers e.g. polyvinyl acetate (PVAc).

The glass transition point plays a key role in many industrial applications. It governs the production of polymers as well as their application temperature and their mechanical behavior. The glass transition describes the change from the hard and bridle „glassy“ to the elastic or viscous state of a material caused by a temperature change. This reversible transition is characteristic for amorphous materials. The reversal process is called vitrification.
