Seminar on Powder Rheology and Surface Area Characterization


This seminar will give you an overview of different methods for particle characterization - what they do and how they work, which is crucial for its processing, transport, storage and characterization in terms of dissolution rates, reactivity, catalytic activity and disintegration.

Knowing a particle’s properties and behaviour, like its surface area, flowability or cohesion not only helps to run quality control but also to study particles in R&D or when up-scaling from R&D to high volumes.

Denis Schütz earned his Master’s degree in chemistry at the University of Graz and joined the PhD program for materials chemistry and chemical engineering at Graz University of Technology afterwards. He also did a Post-Doc there and a Post-Doc at Jozef Stefan Institute. Currently he is principal scientist for powder rheology and applied scientist for materials at Anton Paar GmbH. His work focuses on granular media and powder flow research as well as high temperature processing and device building.
