Description:

Lecture with theoretical aspects covering the fundamentals of light scattering with a particular emphasis on measurement quality and data interpretation. Practical part on particle size determination using laser diffraction. Get to know the basics of the measuring principle and sample preparation. You will have the possibility to test the instruments yourself (PSA 1190 LD) and discuss the results with our specialists.

Qualifications:

Ideally you already have fundamental knowledge in the basics of the measuring principle (light scattering) and sample preparation.

Dr. David Burnand

Dr. David Burnand born in 1985 in Lausanne studied chemical engineering at the Haute Ecole d’Ingénieurs et d’Architectes de Fribourg. He then moved to the University for a Master of Science in Chemistry and obtained his PhD in colloidal chemistry in 2018 from the Adolphe Merkle Institute with a thesis dedicated to the design and the characterization of polymer-coated nanoparticles for biomedical applications.

He decided to expand his knowledge in liquid chromatography and high-resolution mass spectrometry by doing an internship in the field of nutritional metabolomics at the Agroscope Bern-Liebefeld and did a postdoc in the same institute to investigate the interaction of milk products that contains man made nanomaterials and their influence on in vitro digestion model.
