Backstage: Management Trainee

"There are excellent opportunities to develop and grow in an international environment."

Patrick, Management Trainee | Anton Paar GmbH

The one-year management program in Finance offers challenging and diverse tasks in the financial sphere with a strong international focus. From the first day on you are warmly welcomed into the team. The business area Finance is divided into Group Controlling & Consolidation, Accounting, and Treasury. Because of the opportunity to work in all these areas you are given an understanding of the company’s entire financial process. In Group Controlling & Consolidation the focus lies on group-wide budget compilation, cost accounting, and creating running reports for the management. The area of Accounting deals with business accounting and is responsible for creating monthly and annual financial statements. The area of Treasury deals, for example, with payment transaction matters and the hedging of foreign exchange risks. The whole Finance team is the point of contact for all international Anton Paar Group companies in financial matters.

Apart from the daily business in finances, I am responsible for the integration of an acquired company as a project manager. The aim is to optimally integrate the new subsidiary into the Anton Paar Group. For this to be successful it is necessary to analyze the business processes of the acquired company. Together with the respective process experts and with regard to company guidelines, we create and implement suitable processes in the new company. Being part of experienced and interdisciplinary teams facilitates inter-divisional learning as well as professional and personal growth. You learn how to take on responsibility and make decisions together with the team. Apart from project management, I am also responsible for implementing the financial process. This includes the SAP-FI/CO roll-out, establishing accounting and balancing, and other financially relevant topics such as the implementation of a suitable payment transaction process.

Besides specific knowledge in the field of finance, project management skills are also necessary for this job as well as inter-divisional thinking. Getting insights into all company areas helped me develop an overall understanding of the company. These areas were HR, Legal Services, IT, Process Management, Marketing, Sales Management, Business Development, and the Anton Paar product departments. Internal trainings and external seminars are a great opportunity for professional exchange with national and international colleagues as well as for networking within the company. Because of the experiences I have gathered and the stays abroad the trainee program has perfectly prepared me for a challenging position in an internationally active company.
