Nanoindentation Tester (NHT³)

The most versatile and user-friendly nanoindenter on the market

The NHT3 is designed to provide low loads with depth measurements on the nanometer scale for the measurement of hardness, elastic modulus, creep, etc. Its range goes from low loads (0.1 mN) to high loads (500 mN) to provide maximum versatility in the force range. With the unique top surface referencing technique, an indentation measurement can be made immediately without waiting for thermal stabilization. The new “Quick Matrix” indentation mode allows an extremely fast series of measurements (up to 600 measurements per hour).

Key Features

The most user-friendly nanoindenter

  • The most intuitive and easy-to-use software: easy launch of measurements with simple parameters (max. load), statistics analysis, and saved protocols of measurements
  • Multiple-objective video microscope for different magnifications of the surface
  • The most robust nanoindenter: the reference ring protects the indenter tip from collision

"Quick Matrix" indentation mode with “Script” mode

  • Fast and compliant: the “Quick Matrix” indentation mode allows up to 600 measurements per hour in accordance with the ISO14577 standard for instrumented indentation testing (IIT)
  • The new “Script” mode allows you to create a customized template from exported data so you can be flexible and faster on analysis
  • Multi-sample holder for launching automated test series for up to 6 samples on the 6-sample holder or more on a customized sample holder

High precision in depth with the unique design of top referencing

  • Top surface referencing provides a constant reference for the depth of penetration into the material compared to the sample surface
  • High load frame stiffness (107 N/m) results in high accuracy and precision for nanoindentation measurements

High stability of measurements

  • High thermal stability (raw drift rate <0.05 nm/s) for nanoindentation measurements due to top surface referencing
  • Frame with customized synthetic granite for increased stability
  • Unique design with Macor, a material with a low thermal expansion coefficient (10-6/°C) ensures high thermal stability

Multiple modes of testing for multiple modes of analysis

  • Multiple modes of testing: Sinus mode, Continuous Multi Cycles (CMC), constant strain rate, user-defined sequences, advanced matrix and multi-sample protocols, load and depth-controlled modes
  • Multiple modes of analysis for various mechanical properties: Hardness (HIT, HV, HM), elastic modulus, storage and loss moduli, creep, stress-strain curves
  • Measurements in liquids possible with the standard indenter tip
