Solid Surface Charge: The Key in Optimizing Membrane Performance

Solid Surface Charge: The Key in Optimizing Membrane Performance

The surface charge of a membrane is one of the most relevant factors in aqueous filtration processes. It is related to the its zeta potential and provides direct information on the membrane’s surface chemistry and its interaction with charged species in the feed solution. The benefit of the streaming potential method for zeta potential analysis, as presented here, is that membranes can be studied under environmental conditions. It thus allows for visualizing a membrane’s behavior in the technical process.

In this webinar you will learn:

  • how the streaming potential method with SurPASS 3 is applied to determine the surface charge of both, flat sheet and hollow fiber membranes,
  • how membrane surface charge directly influences membrane fouling and
  • how surface charge analysis can be used to optimize membrane cleaning processes.
