Glass Containers for Packaging of Pharmaceutical Products

Relevant for: Drugs, Vaccines, Reprocessing, Glass Recycling, Circular Economy

Glass is an ideal container material for pharmaceuticals products regarding thermal and chemical resistance, and tunable transparence or selective absorption. However, glass needs high temperatures to melt and processing is highly dependent on the melt viscosity of the liquid glass. This study presents the temperature dependent viscosity of two packaging glass materials, as well as measurements of the visco-elastic properties. Quantitative data on flow and deformation behavior are relevant for temperatures above and below the working point.
