Urea production

Urea is produced in two steps. First step is reacting ammonia (NH3) with carbon dioxide (CO2) to ammoniumcarbamate at approximately 150 bar. In the second step this carbamate is decomposed into urea and water at low pressure of a few bar. The produced ammonia is commonly processed to ammoniumsulfate and ammoniumnitrate which are used as fertilizers.

Continuous concentration measurement using L-Dens 7400

Anton Paar’s  density sensors of the L-Dens 7400 series provide highly accurate (± 0,1%) concentration measurement of urea. Furthermore L-Dens sensors are easy to integrate and offer continuous, fast and reliable results.
Measuring the urea content continuously increases production efficiency as well as product quality, prevents product recalls, ensures product and brand quality and increases revenue.
The biggest amount of urea’s worldwide production is used for producing fertilizers. Further it is used for the synthesis of synthetic resins and as nitrate for explosives. Additionally urea is used in rehydration creams and as denaturant for proteins.
