Material Brief: Surface Area and Pore Size of a Metal-Organic Framework - autosorb iQ

Metal-organic framework (MOF) CuBTC was analyzed using Ar (87 K) on the autosorb iQ. The BET area and DFT pore size and volume distribution were calculated from the data following IUPAC recommendations.

Important properties for MOFs and similar materials include the BET area as determined by Rouquerol’s method and recommended by IUPAC and pore size distribution. Similarly, the total pore volume determined near the saturation pressure of the adsorbate also informs scientists of the available space for storing or separating analytes within the porous framework. The autosorb iQ was used to measure the Ar (87 K) adsorption isotherm on CuBTC and the BET area and DFT pore size and volume distributions were calculated from the measured isotherm.
