e-SPRESSO WEBINAR: Addressing Active Pharmaceuticals and Excipient Expectations: Surface Area Measurements with Velocity

Beschreibung:

Solid dosage formulations for drug delivery are designed around the requirements of bioavailability and manufacturability. There exists a need, therefore, to understand how particles of an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and excipients might physically interact with each other when granulated and pressed into tablets, or how they might act as loose powders, in terms of interfacial area both for solid-solid interactions and solid-liquid dissolution. Surface area and pore size measurements play a fundamental role, above and beyond particle size, in understanding and developing suitable formulations that have desirable mechanical and physico-chemical properties.

The new Anton Paar Nova 600/800 series brings state-of-the-art physisorption technology, according to the NOVA design principles, to this demanding application.

Nova series combines next-generation hardware, and accompanying software features, to deliver:

Operational simplicity and sample tracking across the entire analysis workflow: for both preparation and measurement

Velocity, so you can have both speed of analysis and precision, even for low surface areas and pore sizes

Adaptability, so you can keep pace with your analytical needs – from surface area today, to pore size tomorrow.

Webinar content:

  • Introduction to gas physisorption and the vacuum-volumetric method
  • USP <846> and the BET equation
  • Optimizing sample throughput

Target group:

  • Producers and users of API’s and/or excipients
  • Laboratory staff responsible for supporting raw material selection and formulation development
  • Anyone interested in the characterization of functional powders

Dr. Martin Thomas, Anton Paar QuantaTec’s lead scientist, has more than 37 years of experience in powder and porous materials characterization, 27 of those with Quantachrome Instruments before Anton Paar’s acquisition in 2018. Dr. Thomas graduated from the University of Birmingham (UK) with a master’s degree in analytical chemistry followed by a Ph.D. in physical-inorganic chemistry. He is named co-inventor on 10 patents relating to porous solids and their characterization, and is co-author of the book “Characterization of Porous Solids and Powders: Surface Area, Pore Size and Density” (published by Springer).
