Introduction to Instrumented Indentation Testing for the Determination of Hardness and Modulus of Materials


This 1 day workshop is designed for researchers wishing to better understand the theory of instrumented indentation and data interpretation for the determination of hardness, modulus, and other mechanical properties of a wide array of materials.

By the end of this workshop, you will have a sound understanding of:

  • The theory behind Instrumented indentation testing
  • The main factors influencing the indentation results
  • The basis of a good indentation test result

The workshop includes both classroom lecture and laboratory demonstration to combine theory and hands-on into one practical workshop.

Pierre Morel is the technical manager for the indentation / scratch / tribology and AFM instruments of Anton Paar USA. Using 18+ years of experience in material testing, he directs a team supporting and advising customers testing materials at the nano and micro scale. He received a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering from ENISE, and a second Master's degree in Materials Science from the University of Tennesse Knoxville.
