Mechanical Surface Characterization of Coating and Thin Films

Mechanical Surface Characterization of Coating and Thin Films

Developments of various coating techniques such as PVD and CVD, plasma spray coatings, anodic oxidation coatings, chemical and galvanic deposits, polymers and paints have created a huge demand to characterize mechanical properties of surfaces and coatings. Amongst the properties that are of great interest to be measured, either in research or industry, are scratch resistance, coating adhesion, hardness, elastic modulus, tribological and viscoelastic properties. Such measurements are performed not only to develop new coatings and improve the coating processes but also for quality control means. Anton Paar provides different solutions for surface characterization, suited for researchers and manufacturers alike.
